OASLMS awards

Oklahoma School Administrator Award
 The Oklahoma Association of School Library Media Specialists' (OASLMS) award is, if merited, given annually to honor an Oklahoma public school administrator who has been supportive and instrumental in establishing or substantially improving the scope and quality of the library media services offered to the school population under his/her supervision.

 PURPOSE

  1.      To acknowledge the vital importance of the role of school administrators in the development
 and expansion of school library media programs.

  2.     To honor administrators who promote library media services as an integral part of the  public school's
 educational process.

 GUIDELINES

  1.    The award shall be presented at Encyclo-Media to an Oklahoma public school  administrator
 (superintendent, assistant/vice superintendent, principal, assistant/vice principal) actively employed in the school
 during the year covered by the nomination.

 2.     Nominations should be received by the State Department of Education, Library Media Section, by June 15. All nominations
  must be submitted electronically by email by June 15.  Send the nomination form and any supporting materials as attachments
 created in Microsoft Word 97 or later.  If necessary, the attachments may be saved in .txt format.

  3.     Jurors shall be comprised of a seven-member committee appointed for no more than  three years by the Chairperson
 of OASLMS. No committee member may juror his/her own administration. The committee members are as follows:
 Officer of OASLMS;   supervisor of school library media services or district level Library Media Specialist who is a member of OASLMS,
 classroom teacher; school library media  specialist;  library educator; administrator (previous recipient);
  State Department of   Education, Library Media Section representative.

   4.    Nominations are to be made by public school librarians, media center directors, or other  school library staff
members employed in the administrator's school during the year covered by the nomination.

   5.   The winner will be invited to present a program at the next Encyclo-Media.

  NOMINATION STATEMENT

The text of the nomination statement may be made in either narrative or tabular form. It should cover (on separate pages):

 1. A description of the administrator's actual contribution (project, program effort) that  promoted school library
 media services and the improvement noted as a result of his/her efforts. The text should not exceed 600 words.

 2.  The administrator's personal statement of his/her concept of library media services in the  school system. The statement
 should not exceed 250 words.

 3. Biographical data in brief.

 4.  One letter of recommendation from a classroom teacher who utilized the improved media services.

5. One letter of recommendation from a student who enjoyed and benefited from the improved  library media services.

6.  No other materials are to be appended.

 CRITERIA FOR JUDGING

Since the certificate of merit to be presented by OASLMS is to stress the role of school administrators in the promotion of school library media services, these factors may be considered:

 1.   The administrator's concept of the role of school library media services in the educational  process.

  2.  The administrator's actual contribution to the promotion of school library media services as  presented in the nomination.

  3.  The effectiveness of the administrator's role in promoting school library media services.
