Social Responsibilities Roundtable (SRRT)
The year 2000 marked the 50th anniversary of librarian Ruth Brown's courageous efforts to integrate public library service in the town of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. In honor of her life and achievements, the Oklahoma Library Association's Social Responsibilities Roundtable proudly commemorates Ruth Brown as one of Oklahoma's pioneer library spirits.
The winners of the award are recognized at the annual Oklahoma Library Association meeting. These winners and their projects are: -
1998 Brain Train: Positive Tomorrow’s Transitional Center - An organization that provides schooling for homeless children. With the Ruth Brown Memorial Award fund, Positive Tomorrow’s purchased materials for their recreational reading library.

1999 The First Amendment: Where Would American Culture Be Without It?: Allied Arts and Humanities Council of Bartlesville and The Bartlesville Public Library – 3 year series of public programs as well as library resources on the First Amendment.

2000 Service to the Aging: Anadarko Community Library in partnership with Silver Crest Manor Nursing Home and Laureate Alpha Kappa - provided book talks, engaged residents in discussion, created personal crafts and provided activities such as a tea party.

2001 Say You, Say Me: Together Celebrating Diversity: Oak Park Episcopal School - 6 month project of purchasing diversity books for Grades 3-6. These grades then wrote and produced a literary anthology promoting tolerance. The anthologies were sold for $5 and the students raised $500, which they donated to the HFV Wilson Community Center for an African American Heritage library.

2002 Child Fest 2000, Spiro Public Library - A summer day camp that provided children with cultural activities, presenters, story hours, use of the library and computer technology information, and an introduction to other children in a way that incorporated learning and fun.
