Through interactive group exercises, a diverse array of speakers, and a panel focused on problem solving, this workshop will help librarians identify the religious biases they have, learn why they have them, and how they are affecting their work with patrons and colleagues.

A workshop co-sponsored by
the Social Responsibilities Roundtable and the Ethics Committee

When: Wednesday, March 7, 2018, 9:00 am to 3:30 pm

Where: Enid Public Library, 120 W. Maine, Enid, OK 73701

Cost: OLA Members $65; Non-members $130; Students $30

Description:

Through interactive group exercises, a diverse array of speakers, and a panel focused on problem solving, this workshop will help librarians identify the religious biases they have, learn why they have them, and how they are affecting their work with patrons and colleagues.

Agenda:

9:00-9:30 a.m.  Check-in and continental breakfast 
9:30-9:45 a.m.  Introduction: What SRRT is trying to accomplish & seeing a whole person: Suzette Chang 
9:45-10:30 a.m.  Session 1 - Our religious biases: What are they, why do we have them, and how do they affect out patrons?  Moises Echeverria, OK Center for Community & Justice 
10:30-12:00 p.m.  Session 2 - Our diverse patrons: Information needs & barriers: Panel Session 
12:00-12:45 p.m.  Session 3 - Working Lunch - Discussions of particular incidents and discussion of solutions 
12:45-1:00 p.m.  Session 4 - Report on lunch discussions 
1:00-2:30 p.m.  Session 5 - Sticky Situations: Dr. Ellen Rubenstein, OU SLIS Professor; Leanne Cheek, Teen Selector and Coordinator, Pioneer Library System and OLA Intellectual Freedom Committee Chair 
2:30-3:30 p.m.  Session 6 - Making your workplace welcoming to staff members: Moises Echeverria
