Opportunities to Give

Celebrating the Centennial, 1907-2007

Established the same year Oklahoma became a State, the Oklahoma Library Association celebrated its centennial year in 2007 by establishing an Endowment. Through a donation or planned gift, donors can reach across decades to touch future generations to ensure these goals are realized. The current goal of the Endowment campaign is to reach $200,000. As of July 2009 the balance of the Endowment is $122,803.

OLA's membership -- over 1,000 strong -- is represented in school, public, academic, and special libraries around the state and shares a common mission "to strengthen the quality of libraries, library services, and librarianship in Oklahoma."

Giving will create a permanent source of funds which will:

  • Provide guaranteed income to sponsor nationally prominent speakers for conferences, workshops, and other educational opportunities;
  • Support the administration of the Oklahoma Library Association;
  • Allow the Association to respond quickly to new opportunities to forge partnerships and address critical challenges;
  • Fund scholarships; and
  • Foster greater innovation in continuing education opportunities in Oklahoma Libraries.

Giving will also create and maintain a home office for the Association which will:

  • Provide meeting space for training workshops and seminars for librarians, conference planning activities, OLA Board meetings, and Literary, arts and humanities groups;
  • Raise the visibility of OLA by providing a convenient, centrally located space for library advocacy activities; and,
  • House OLA administrative personnel.

For over 100 Years, Oklahoma Library Association has served it members in their efforts to:

  • Ensure all Oklahomans free and equal access to information
  • Provide enriching literary and humanities experiences for Oklahoma children and adults
  • Introduce Oklahomans to the latest information technologies
  • Assure citizens from the smallest to largest communities access to cultural activities
  • Raise the quality of life for all Oklahomans by providing books, literacy training, and computer access
  • Stimulate business enterprise by providing entrepreneurs with business marketing information
  • Recruit young people to librarianship with scholarships and trained entry-level librarians embarking on their careers
