Filtering Fairly: Internet Filters and Intellectual Freedom

Date: April 5, 2013
Time: 4:00 p.m.
Sponsors: Intellectual Freedom Committee, Ethics Committee, Social Responsibilities Roundtable

Federal law requires public and school libraries receiving E-rate discounts to filter obscene content from public computers. However, many filtering softwares inadvertently block non-obscene content, especially non-sexual LGBT websites. Brady Henderson, Legal Director of the ACLU of Oklahoma, will discuss these regulations and the legal implications of filtering.

As Legal Director of the ACLU of Oklahoma, Brady Henderson manages the legal advocacy and litigation programs of the state's most dedicated civil liberties organization. Brady is a former Assistant District Attorney with extensive experience as a domestic violence and stalking prosecutor. He also was manager of his own law practice before joining ACLU of Oklahoma.
