50 Shades of Ethical Gray

This panel discussion will examine a variety ethical issues arising in today's diverse library environments. The panelists will approach the issues from their different specialties and explore the guidelines provided in the ALA Code of Ethics.

Photo of Michelle R. MearsMichelle R. Mears has been Director of the Public Library of Enid & Garfield County since September 2008. She has a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois and a Ph.D. in Education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Michelle has worked in both academic and public libraries since 1997. Michelle was raised in the Chicago area, lived in both northern and southern Illinois, and moved to Oklahoma from Kansas in 2008. She is active in the library profession as a member of the American Library Association, Mountain Plains Library Association, and the Oklahoma Library Association, and served as Kansas Library Association President in 2006-07.

Photo of Jennifer PrillmanJennifer Prillman is Head of Reference Services at Oklahoma City University Law Library.  Jennifer Prilliman joined the Oklahoma City University Law Library in August 2010. Her research interests include legal information literacy and instruction, copyright law, open access, and ethics. Jennifer Prilliman completed the Master of Library and Information Studies program at the University of Oklahoma. While in graduate school she was as an officer for the library student association, served on the School of Library and Information Studies’ curriculum committee, and was selected to present a paper at the Oklahoma Library Association annual conference.  Prior to entering the M.L.I.S. program, she taught advanced placement and college preparatory courses at a college preparatory charter school in Oklahoma City. While in the University of Oklahoma Law School, she was a member of the Jessup Moot Court team, topic editor for the Oklahoma Journal of Law and Technology, member of the Board of Advocates. She is an active member in the Oklahoma Bar Association. Jennifer is the vice-chair for the Law Day committee and a member of the Bar Technology and Access to Justice Committees. She is also a member of the American Association of Law Libraries.
