Information Matrix Camp: 2013 Camp --> Sunday
Share |

Information Matrix Camp 2013, sponsored jointly by the Oklahoma Library Association (OLA) and Rose State College, is off to a great start. After a brief orientation at the hotel with families, the 31 campers and 9 facilitators loaded a bus for Rose State College.

Everyone enjoyed a tasty barbecue dinner of chicken, brisket and all the works.

Afterwards, the group met in the Rose State College Learning Resource Center to hear from Lynda Reynolds, OLA President, who spoke to the group about her journey into librarianship and about the library association. A fun fact about her library career that she shared with the campers is that through a library conference, she was able to meet her favorite author Lois Duncan. She also treated the campers to chocolate bars.

Through a demonstration using themed hats, the campers learned about different library careers such as military librarian, culinary librarian, zoo librarian, and engineering librarian.

Then, it was time to really get to know each other. The infamous Name Game helped everyone put names to faces. Campers were further challenged to add an adjective to their name beginning with first letter of their name. Some of the creative adjectives were goofy, kool, rockin’, brave, active, dry, kooky, and stunning. After we learned names, we broke into smaller groups and played the game “Two Lies and a Truth” to learn about our campmates. To beat the rain, the games continued. We tried our hand at the Awkward Game, played Charades, and learned how to play Ninja. Campers also uploaded a photo to their Edmodo profile.

After cleaning the center, we came back to the hotel for computer play, snacks, and swimming.

We’re excited to get on the road tomorrow.
