Information Matrix Camp: 2013 Camp --> Thursday
Share |

The week is almost over, but we are still going strong! Today we started off at the Northwest Oklahoma City Public Library. The campers had the chance to read to pre-registered kids, aging from Pre-K to 5th/6th graders, and a handful of the Deer Creek daycare kids. During this hour program, the campers took their group on a scavenger hunt throughout the library, where they had to answer specific questions to find 6 puzzle pieces. When they were finished with this they played board games, heard stories, and played with Legos.

After all the activities at the Northwest Library, we had worked up an appetite! We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Spaghetti Warehouse in Downtown, OKC.  Our next stop brought us to Rose State College where we heard from a virtual librarian with the Pioneer Library System. She showcased some of the databases and web services that she works with during her job.

This is our bus driver, Jim!
We really appreciate him!

For a look at information management on the opposite end of the spectrum from the virtual world, we headed to the Museum of Osteology. There we learned how to identify skulls with the help of a dichotomous key and we also got to explore the vast collection of animal and human skeletons.

Our last destination for the day was the Oklahoma Health Science Center where we were treated to pizza! Following this, we had a tour and a presentation on how we can contribute to Wikipedia’s continued existence by assisting with editing or adding Wiki pages or photos. One camper even created a Wikipedia page for the Information Matrix Camp!
