School and Public Library Partnerships

Date: Wednesday, April 2
Time: 3:00 p.m.
Sponsor: Supervisors, Managers & Administrators Roundtable (SMART)

Dynamic partnerships between the school and public library can create readers and help to build a better community. See how two YA lit loving ladies combined their strengths and resources to educate, relate, and inspire their students, coworkers, and each other. Learn steps you can take to develop valuable collaborations with your local school or public library.

Amanda Kordeliski, Librarian, Irving Middle School, Norman

Amanda Kordeliski has been the librarian at Irving Middle School in Norman for the past four years. She currently serves on the Intermediate Sequoyah team and is a member of the OLA Gold Leadership class for 2013. Amanda is very active in YALSA and AASL, currently serving on the Teen Read Week, YALSA State Road Trips and YALSA Development and Membership Promotions committees. Amanda participated in the 2013 YALSA Summit on Teens and Libraries and is a voracious reader of middle grade and young adult literature.

Rebecca Spence, Teen & Information Services, Norman Public Library of the Pioneer Library System

Rebecca has worked for the Pioneer Library System since 2002, serving in Teen & Information Services at the Norman Public Library since 2005, and is a current participant of the IMPACT PLS Leadership program. She has been involved with the OLA Sequoyah Book Award for the last five years, serving three years as a founding member of the High School Reading Team. She is also a founding member of the OLA Sequoyah Promotions Committee, striving to raise awareness and enthusiasm among educators and teen readers. Rebecca believes that the future of libraries lies in developing and nurturing strong connections with the communities they serve as well as mentoring and inspiring young people to love their libraries.  When not reading YA books, she is almost certainly sharing her passion for them with others.
