E-Books, Erotica, and Everything Else: New Challenges in Intellectual Freedom

Librarians will speak on major Intellectual Freedom issues such as self-censorship, e-reader censorship, etc. and answer audience questions.

Karin PerryKarin Perry, Assistant Professor in the Department of Library Science at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX

Prior to taking a university position, Karin worked as a school librarian in both the elementary and middle school settings. She holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum – English Education and a Masters of Library and Information Studies, both from the University of Oklahoma. She is the author of the AudioTalk column for Voice of Youth Advocates and serves on the Teen Read Week and Quick Picks for Reluctant Readers committees for YALSA. Ellen DueckerEllen Duecker, Director of Libraries, Tulsa Public Schools

Ellen Duecker has been Director of Library Media Services for Tulsa Public Schools for the past 16 years.  She will share insight from her experience managing a wide range of book challenges from this large urban district. Ellen has presented at numerous workshops at state and national conferences on topics ranging from Using Data to Support Your Library Program, to School Librarians, Biting Into The Core.  

Sarah DiLorenzoSara DiLorenzo, Wilson Elementary, Norman

Sarah DiLorenzo lives in Norman with her family and is the librarian at Wilson Elementary School.  She has been a librarian for six years and is the current chair of the Sequoyah Administrative Team.


Cathie Sue Andersen

Cathie Sue Andersen, Selector Youth Fiction, Tulsa City County Library

Cathie Sue Andersen, received her MLIS from the University of Oklahoma, and is the materials selector at the Tulsa City-County Library. She selects fiction for children from birth to age 18 including graphic novels for all. The first Children’s Services Coordinator for TCCL, she is currently vice-chair for the Oklahoma Teen Book Fest, is a featured reviewer for the Children’s and Young Adult Book Review Podcast, and has served as a member of each Sequoyah Book Award Reading Team. Cathie Sue has spoken at ALA Annual and multiple Oklahoma Library Association conferences. She is constantly seeking creative ways to serve children and young adults, foster in them a love for books and reading and bring children and authors together. She lives and raises chickens in Collinsville, Ok.
