OLA 2015: Lunch and Learn: Storytelling with Dementia and Alzheimer's Using the TimeSlips Technique
Share |

Date: Thursday, April 30
Time: noon – 1:15 pm
Sponsor: Supervisors, Managers, Administrators Roundtable (SMART)

TimeSlips Creative Storytelling is an activity that was initially created to allow patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s to enjoy the freedom of storytelling.  The activity is appealing because there is no right or wrong answer and it encourages all types of participation, from singing to speaking to motion.  Mainly used assisted living center residents since it can come to them where they live, but its use can be expanded to any age group.  The technique is learned through which is the home base for the non-profit organization that certifies facilitators.  I am currently the only certified facilitator in Oklahoma.

Ginger HoldredgeGinger Holdredge is an information services librarian at the Southwest Oklahoma City library.  She mainly does adult and intergenerational programming within the branch while also doing book drops and TimeSlips storytelling at assisted living centers.  Ginger worked in technical services as a cataloger  and was a member of TSRT before her current position.  She earned her MLIS from the University of Oklahoma and recently became the first certified facilitator for TimeSlips in Oklahoma.  Ginger has also completed Pioneer Library System’s IMPACT leadership series and is currently in the South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce’s TEAM South class where she gets to meet and interact with community leaders and partners while learning about leadership and communication.
