Comic Books as Folklore
3:30-4:30 pm

Session Description

A discussion on how comic books and superheroes function as modern-day folklore by examining the traits of folklore and mythology and comparing them with the stories and characters portrayed in the panels of the "funny pages."

Session Objective

To highlight that comic books are much more than just stories about powered people in tights for kids.

David Brown is a lifelong fan of the adventures of heroes, villains, and sidekicks. He has studied comparative religion, folklore, and mythology in his never-ending college experience. Brown has worked for the Pioneer Library System for two years and is currently on the team at the Noble Public Library.
