OLA 2018 Full Day Pre-conference: Grant Writing

Please note that pre-conferences require separate registration and are not part of the conference registration.

Registration includes buffet lunch and afternoon snack

Several speakers will discuss grants available to libraries of all kinds, tips for writing successful grants, and an overview of what grant reviewers look for when awarding grants. Attendees will learn how to match the priorities of funding sources with the needs of their own libraries and their patrons.

Bob PickeringBob Pickering, Ph.D. is the founding director of the new master’s degree program in Museum Science and Management at the University of Tulsa, and the senior curator at the Gilcrease Museum. Over his 30-year career, Pickering has filled many roles in some of America’s finest museums, including the Field Museum of Natural History, the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. As an educator, curator and administrator, he brings broad experience to his new role as director of the MSM program.

Bambi LittlesunBambi Littlesun is a grant writer and has been a grant reviewer for the past 9 years. Bambi has reviewed ANA Language, ERE, and SEDS, as well as IMLS grants. Bambi has worked with many OK tribes over the years and has used her expertise in media and Native language to assist tribes in meeting ANA language goals. Bambi has written and implemented Library grants for IMLS and NNLM. She also enjoys teaching grant writing and helping new grant writers improve their skills.


Julie Moss


Julie Moss is a Federal Grants Specialist/Grant Writer for Neighbors Building Neighborhoods, Muskogee, OK.  In this role, she assists grant seekers in locating possible grants and learning to write grant proposals on their own.




Sandra TorSandra Toro is a Senior Program Officer at the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). She administers discretionary grant programs for the Office of Library Services and works closely with staff from the Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation on the development of performance measures and evaluation resources for awardees. She leads several working groups for the Office of Library Services focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), Lifelong Learning, and Research and Evaluation Coordination. She is also the Program Officer for the Learning Labs Program and the National STEM Video Game Challenge, among others.

Jan Davis is the Administrative Archivist for the Oklahoma Department of Libraries.  She manages the State Archives, which houses the permanent records of state government dating back to statehood.  Jan is also the Coordinator of the Oklahoma Historical Records Advisory Board, which works to provide resources and support for Oklahoma libraries, archives and museums that hold historical records collections.  She has master’s degrees in Library and Information Studies and Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma.  She is a Certified Records Manager, a Certified Archivist, and a Digital Archives Specialist.
