How Libraries Can Provide Services to Adult Literacy Students/Adults with Low Literacy Skills

Wondering what kind of services would help the ESL learners in your community? Puzzled over how to help adults who ask for reading help? Members of the Oklahoma Literacy Coalition will be on hand to talk about partnering with literacy groups, adult literacy resources available to Oklahoma libraries, and services and programs you can offer in your library even if you don't have the staff/time/funds to launch a full-on adult literacy program.

Jennifer Wells



Jennifer Wells is currently the manager of the Ruth G. Hardman Adult Literacy Service, which is part of the Tulsa City-County Library. She serves as Vice-President of the Oklahoma Literacy Coalition.




Edel Godwin



Edel Godwin is the Executive Director of Rogers County Literacy in Claremore, OK.



Rebecca BarkerRebecca Barker is the Coordinator, Grants and English Language Learning (ELL), at the Oklahoma Department of Libraries.  Her responsibilities for literacy grants funded by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries include coordinating the process, reviewing reports, and offering technical assistance. She also oversees ELL activities by arranging training and identifying resources, and coordinates a citizenship and immigration program. With previous experience as a local literacy program director, Rebecca has first-hand knowledge of local needs and challenges. She is a trainer, public speaker, and editor of LRO publications including Celebrating Our Journey, a collection of stories written by adult learners. Rebecca represents the Literacy Resource Office on the board of the Oklahoma Literacy Coalition where she previously served as president.
