Mildred Laughlin Festival of Books for Young People: 2016 Festival

The 2016 Mildred Laughlin Festival of Books was held on October 27, 2016 at Northeastern State University Broken Arrow Campus in Broken Arrow, OK.  Attendees had the opportunity to meet award-winning author and illustrator Don Tate, and Young Adult authors PJ Hoover and Lauren Myracle.

Don Tate

Don Tate is an award-winning author, and the illustrator of over 50 critically acclaimed books for children. He is also one of the founding hosts of the blog The Brown Bookshelf – a blog designed to push awareness of the myriad of African American voices writing for young readers, with book reviews, author and illustrator interviews.




PJ Hoover

PJ Hoover writes books for middle school students and young adults introducing them to mythology in entertaining and accurate ways. Her reviews from Booklist, Voya, Kirkus and Texas Lone Star Reading list are full of praise.



Lauren Myracle

Lauren Myracle has written many award winning young adult books on topics that are current and critical to society today.  Her work first novel Kissing Kate received the Allie McNamara ALA Best Books for Young Adults. She is an advocate for acceptance.
