Roger and Donna Hardesty

Photo of Donna and Roger HardestyOver the past 20 years, Donna and Roger Hardesty have donated their time, money and land to the Tulsa City-County Library, helping the system provide better library service for all customers. With their generous gifts, the Hardestys have enabled the System to meet the community’s growing needs.

They began their support of the Tulsa Library System in the early 1980’s by making the first major contribution to the Tulsa Library Trust. Their $600,000 donation was the catalyst for the development of the endowment, which helps fund many of the library’s special programs and services. In gratitude, the South Regional Library was renamed in honor of Roger and Donna. They made that first contribution because they believed that the library is the people’s University, serving all segments of the community and all age groups. Donna had always had a deep commitment to helping others learn, and for many years gave her time as a tutor. She served on the Tulsa Library Trust board from 1986 to 1992.

When the Hardesty Library was bursting at the seams in the late 1990’s, plans to enlarge the building were hampered severely by the size of the site. At that point, Roger stepped up to the plate again, donating 8 acres of prime real estate, which permitted the construction of a brand new 48,669 sq. foot library, with room for expansion. The Hardestys have taken great pride in how the usage has soared in the new building.

They were inducted into the Tulsa Library Hall of Fame in December, 2004, and continue to be supportive of the System.
