Share |

Date: Thursday, April 30
Time: 2:45 pm - 3:45 pm
Sponsor: University and College Division (UCD)
Co-Sponsor: Tribal Libraries Committee (TLC)

Have you wondered whether you should digitize some of the items in your special collections so that you could make them available online? In this session we will provide an overview of key topics to consider, such as evaluating collection materials, copyright considerations, best practices and guidelines for scanning, creating metadata, and sharing digital content.  Presenters will discuss the ongoing project of the Oklahoma Department of Libraries to provide training and work with Oklahoma libraries considering digitizing their special collections.

As the Administrative Archivist for the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, Jan Davis manages the State Archives, which houses more than 26,000 cubic feet of the permanent records of state government dating back to statehood.  She works closely with records coordinators in state agencies to help them manage their records effectively.  Jan is also the Coordinator of the Oklahoma Historical Records Advisory Board, which works to provide resources and support for Oklahoma libraries, archives and museums that hold historical records collections.  She has master’s degrees in Library and Information Studies and Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma.  She is a Certified Records Manager and a Certified Archivist.

At the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, Kitty Pittman is the Administrative Librarian for the Office of Library Resources, which includes Public & Technical Services, Interlibrary Loan, Cartwright Law Library and the Oklahoma Publications Clearinghouse. She is also the Digital Collection Coordinator for digital  collections housed on Digital Prairie and works closely with State Archives and State Agencies to provide access to both current and historical materials online. She has a master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Oklahoma.
