Session Description

Jeff Kos from the Jazz Hall of Fame, located at Tulsa's old Union Depot Building in downtown Tulsa, will discuss their collections and efforts to educate Oklahomans, tourists and visitors about Oklahoma's amazing and diverse music heritage, and the impact the music and our outstanding Oklahoma artists have made to the fabric of music in this country and on the musical landscape throughout the world.

McFarlin Library Special Collections and University Archives, University of Tulsa, will be presenting on topics relating to the history of Oklahoma. Marc Carlson, Jennifer Donner, and Melissa Kunz will discuss topics such as Oklahoma photographers (Bob McCormack, Bjarne Holm), Alice Mary Robertson (early anti-feminist and politician), and the large Indians of North America collection (including documents from the Cherokee Nation).

Session Objective

To provide an overview of the various resources that are available in these two institutions.

Jeff Kos

Jeff Kos is the Historian and Head of Preservation at the Jazz Hall of Fame.

Jennifer Donner

Jennifer Donner has been a Special Collections librarian at McFarlin Library since November 2013. She holds a Masters in Library and Information Studies from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Educational Leadership Higher Education-Student Affairs from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and a Bachelor of Science in History from Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste.Marie, Michigan.

Melissa Kunz

Melissa Kunz has been a Special Collections Librarian at the McFarlin Library since April 2015. She holds a Masters in Library and Information Studies and a J.D. from the University of Oklahoma, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Hendrix College in Arkansas.

Marc Carlson

Marc Carlson has worked at the McFarlin Library since 1986, and is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University. He has been the Librarian of Special Collections since 2005.
