Let's Talk About It Oklahoma!
8:00-9:00 am
Sponsored by PLD

Session Description

Do you want to encourage patrons to have meaningful conversations about literature?  Does your library have a book club but interest and participation seem to be dwindling? Learn how a grant for the humanities-based reading and discussion program, "Let's Talk About It, Oklahoma," can benefit your patrons, your library, and your community.

Session Objective

The objective of this session is to encourage libraries to apply for a grant which pays for all expenses related to "Let's Talk About It, Oklahoma," a program offered by the Oklahoma Humanities Council (OHC).

Exposure to the humanities helps us:

  • learn from history,
  • expand our understanding beyond the immediate time and place,
  • understand and empathize with other points of view,
  • cultivate our powers of imagination,
  • encourage tolerance end flexibility.
  • think critically and analyze complex circumstances, and
  • communicate effectively.

Exploration of the humanities through literature makes it easier for a reader to walk in the shoes of a character who is dissimilar from one's self and see the world from a new perspective.
