Reach Out! Branding and Marketing Your School Library

Session Description:
“I wish I could just sit in here and read all day!” If you have ever heard this statement, or felt like others don’t understand the true role of the school library, this session is for you. Learn how creating a purpose-driven library brand can not only portray a professional and effective program to your stakeholders, but unify the many roles of the library behind a common vision. In this session, participants will learn: The principles of branding as they relate to school libraries specifically Why it’s important to create personalized brand for the school library How to align the library’s values, goals, and aesthetic to create a library brand that will set your library apart. Free tools for creating branding and marketing materials for the school library Strategies for reaching out into the school and district to promote the school library program.

Kelsey BarkerKelsey Barker is the Teacher Librarian at Longfellow Middle School in Norman. She earned her MLIS from the University of Oklahoma and is the winner of the 2016 OLA Outstanding New Librarian Award. She is involved in several site and district leadership activities and is actively involved in OLA, OKSL, and YALSA.Kelsey is a designer of the 2016 and 2017 Teen Summits and frequently presents inquiry and technology-centered professional development at state and local conferences.
