Managing During Personal Crisis
Sponsors: OLA Gold and Supervisors, Managers and Administrators Roundtable

Date: Wednesday, April 26
Time: 4:00-5:00 pm
Location: Salon Q

Session Description:
Personal crisis is going to happen in life, working or not; births, deaths, health or accidents; it is going to make an impact. How does an employee, who is called on to manage a personal crisis, also continue producing in a full-time career? What about the manager? It is definitely much more complicated when you are also a working professional with a role in leadership and management. Staff rely on your management and leadership on a regular basis. What do you do when you are not available during said crisis? How does one actually manage to handle both? Is it even possible? What can you implement to prepare your staff and yourself before the crisis hits? How do you cope with work when worried, stressed or sick? Drawing on current leadership and management literature, and the speaker’s own overwhelming personal circumstances dealing with multiple simultaneous crises, this presentation will discuss and map out a set of tools and strategies to help successfully navigate the effective management of your team without compromising your own needs during any given crisis. Also to be discussed are the limitations, potential traps and failures that can occur during this time.
