Oklahoma Libraries and Edge: Findings from local libraries and state Edge programs
Sponsor: Public Libraries Division

Date: Wednesday, April 26
Time: 9:50-11:20 am
Location: Salon N

Session Description:
Oklahoma’s public libraries have been leaders in the national Edge initiative, a program that helps libraries assess their public access technology services and plan improvements. After two Edge Assessment periods, what have we learned? How have individual libraries progressed? How has the Oklahoma Department of Libraries responded to Edge results, and what have we learned from other states participating in Edge?  Bill Young and Amy Brandley will present Oklahoma information, while Lourdes Aceves, Senior Program Manager for Edge, will share Edge experiences and findings from other states.

Amy BrandleyAmy Brandley recently conducted a program evaluation of the Edge toolkit as used by small Oklahoma libraries for her master’s capstone project. She has worked with Oklahoma public libraries on Edge as a consultant with the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and participated in Edge as the director of the El Reno Carnegie Library. Amy graduated with a master of public administration in December 2016 from the University of Central Oklahoma and holds a bachelor of arts in social relations from Cornell University. Amy teaches technology classes at the ODL computer lab and is a certified Thai yoga bodywork practitioner and yoga instructor.

Bill YoungBill Young is celebrating 30 years with the Oklahoma Department of Libraries this month, and has served as the agency’s public information manager since 1994. He supervises the agency’s public relations activities, publications, website, and social media activities. His office is also responsible for supervising the Oklahoma Center for the Book, which stages the annual Oklahoma Book Awards, and for producing the Oklahoma Almanac, the official blue book of state government information.

Lourdes AcevesLourdes Aceves is the Senior Program Manager for Edge. She manages the Edge State Library Program, working closely with state library partners to secure broad adoption across their states.
