Principle vs. Practice: Regional Influences on LGBTQ Library Collections
Sponsor: Social Responsibilities Roundtable

Date: Wednesday, April 26
Time: 9:50-11:20 am
Location: Salon O

Session Description:
The American Library Association’s Bill of Rights as applied to LGBTQ materials states that all libraries should battle efforts to exclude these items, and that such exclusion constitutes censorship. However, this philosophy often does not translate to the local level, especially in conservative areas that traditionally resist open acceptance of LGBTQ people and related ideas, policies, and laws. Pratt will explore the Regional differences that affect LGBTQ holdings and provide tools to help librarians add LGBTQ materials to their collections.

Traci PrattSpeaker:

She earned her MLIS at the University of Oklahoma.
