The following Resolutions were approved by the Membership at the OLA Annual Conference in Midwest City, on May 1, 2015:

WHEREAS the Oklahoma Department of Libraries is the agency authorized to serve the information and records management needs of state government, assist with public library development, coordinate library and information technology projects for the state, and serve the general public through their specialized collections; and

WHEREAS the Oklahoma Department of Libraries oversees the public library certification program, provides database and computer training, helps public libraries offer summer reading programs to Oklahoma children, provides consultants to public libraries, supplies an array of databases to all Oklahoma libraries, and provides many other services in support of public and other library institutions in the state; and

WHEREAS the Oklahoma Department of Libraries has worked closely with the Oklahoma Library Association to provide continuing education to librarians and support to libraries throughout the state; and

WHEREAS the Oklahoma Department of Libraries has undergone budget cuts in previous years and has made the conscious decision to absorb the brunt of the cuts internally rather than passing them on to public libraries, thereby continuing their record of excellent service; therefore, be it

RESOLVED that the Oklahoma Library Association applauds the Oklahoma Department of Libraries for its sustained record of exemplary serviced to public libraries and the general Oklahoma library community, and thanks them for their continuing support in hard times.

WHEREAS in 2007 the OLA Career Recruitment and Retention Committee, then chaired by Sharon Saulmon, and Rose State College secured a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to offer the Information Matrix Camp, a week-long summer camp for 12-14 year-olds to visit libraries and other information centers and introduce them to the variety of career opportunities for information professionals; and

WHEREAS the OLA gave the organizers of the Information Matrix Camp a Special Project Award in 2008 in recognition of their ingenuity and hard work coordinating the camp; and

WHEREAS the Information Matrix Camp continued for the next eight years with the continuing support of Rose State College and a second IMLS grant in addition to support from the OLA Endowment and many libraries that donated food and meeting space for the camp; and

WHEREAS Sharon Saulmon, her successor as project director, Melissa Huffman, and many committed information professionals took time away from their jobs to help make the camp a success, serving as counselors and sharing their stories and knowledge with the campers; and

WHEREAS many Oklahoma information professionals warmly welcomed the campers into their institutions, and informed as well as entertained them as they learned about their collections; and

WHEREAS the Information Matrix Camp reached a large number of Oklahoma youth, introducing them to the various career options available in libraries, archives, museums, and record centers, thus helping secure support for the information profession in our state; and

WHEREAS the camp organizers have, with great reluctance, decided not to offer a camp in 2015 due to lack of funding, though not due to lack of enthusiasm; therefore, be it

RESOLVED that the Oklahoma Library Association recognizes and praises the outstanding work of Sharon Saulmon, Melissa Huffman, Rose State College, the Career Recruitment and Retention Committee, and all the dedicated volunteers who helped make this innovative outreach project so successful for the last eight years.
