The following Resolutions were approved by the Membership at the OLA Annual Conference in Tulsa, on April 1, 2016:
WHEREAS Wayne Hanway retired from the Southeastern Public Library System of Oklahoma in December, 2015; and
WHEREAS Wayne has given Southeastern and the citizens of southeast Oklahoma twenty-four years of dedicated library service; and
WHEREAS Wayne’s great accomplishments include the passing of an increased millage in all seven counties served by Southeastern and the construction or remodeling of many Southeastern branches; and
WHEREAS Wayne has been a leader in OLA having served as president, MPLA Representative, and many other positions, and was honored as one of the state’s Library Legends in OLA’s centennial year; and
WHEREAS Wayne has been an inspiration and a mentor to many librarians and library leaders across the state and nation; therefore be it
RESOLVED that the Oklahoma Library Association would like to thank Wayne for his exemplary leadership and advocacy on behalf of Oklahoma libraries and OLA, and wish him well as he makes his future plans.
WHEREAS Barbara Miller will be retiring from the Documents Department in the OSU Library on July 1, 2016; and
WHEREAS Barbara has been mainstay of the OLA Government Information Roundtable for many years, serving as a tireless advocate of government information on behalf of all citizens; and
WHEREAS Barbara has served as editor of the Oklahoma Librarian for several years, helping make the publication a vibrant, online forum for news and information on Oklahoma Libraries; and
WHEREAS Barbara has been a longtime member of the OLA Legislative Committee and other OLA units, all demonstrating her passion and dedication to strengthening Oklahoma libraries and OLA; therefore, be it
RESOLVED that the Oklahoma Library Association considers her to be an Oklahoma library treasure and wishes her well with her future plans.
WHEREAS Barbara Ray will be retiring as the director of the Master of Science in Library, Media, and Information Technology at Northeastern State University, Broken Arrow; and
WHEREAS Barbara has served as the university representative to the Sequoyah Intermediate Book Awards reading team for years and has been a dedicated advocate of library services for children and young adults through groups such as OKSL, AASL, YALSA, and others; and
WHEREAS Barbara has further served OLA as state representative to the Mountain Plains Library Association, chair of the Library Education Division, and in many other roles; therefore, be it
RESOLVED that the Oklahoma Library Association considers her to be an Oklahoma Library treasure, and wishes her well with her future plans.
