Description:

Join us for the TSRT Spring Learning Module titled "Safeguarding the Past: Digitization, Preservation, and Beyond." This module is designed for professionals and practitioners in library settings, focusing on special collections, preservation, and access management.

Session 1: "Five Years of Collections Management in 12 Months"

  • Speakers: Fredrick Reiss (University of Oklahoma, Head of Description and Access) and Jackie Reece (University of Oklahoma, Western History Archive)
  • Description: This session will focus on the experiences and challenges encountered during a large-scale preservation project at the Western History Collections at OU Libraries. The presentation will highlight lessons learned from reallocating efforts to tasks such as inventorying, location management, and record management.

Session 2: “Archival Preservation Basics"

  • Speaker: Jennifer Green, Metropolitan Library System Special Collections Librarian
  • Description: Jennifer Green will lead a discussion on the stabilization and storage of paper items for preservation, including techniques for protecting old or fragile paper items and creating digital surrogates. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.
